Library Role
The role of libraries is to collect, organise and make information available in response to the needs of their customers and library staff are skilled and experienced in doing this. Since 1998, members of staff at WELB’s Library Service have applied these skills to the tragic events of August 1998 and its aftermath, working with the local community to create the Omagh Bomb Archive.
I should like to pay tribute to all the staff who have contributed in many different ways over the years to this very significant and challenging project.

About Us
The Western Education & Library Board’s Library Service provides services to the general public and to schools through a network of branch and mobile libraries, the Centre for Migration Studies and a service for people who are housebound. The library also serves old people's homes and day centres.
In 2005/2006, the library provided over 300,000 computer sessions and dealt with over 100,000 enquiries and requests. Over 1 million people visited libraries and borrowed 1.1 million items.

Library Membership
Membership of the library is free and there is no charge to members for internet use. Requests for items in stock can be made on line through either the Library website or the WELB website.

The core services include lending books, CD’s, DVD’s, videos, talking books and language packs. National, provincial and local newspapers are available for in house reading. All libraries have a collection of reference books and study facilities. Libraries and mobiles have computer access for adults and children.
