Tribute from Galway visitors
A group of Galway people returned to the town this week for a special vigil at the Market Street bomb site. After visiting the town in the 'Give A Day to Omagh' campaign, fifty senior citizens from Omagh were invited to Galway for a four day break where they were presented with flowers and candles at a service in Renmore. The group was accompanied to Galway by organiser, Mickey Kelly, and Rev Derek Quinn, of Cappagh.
Redevelopment plans
The district council revealed that work was due to start on the reconstruction of Omagh's Market Street within the next few months. News of the imminent redevelopment was welcomed by Omagh Traders' Association and the local Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The Heritage Lottery Fund confirmed that it was approving a grant of £900,000 to assist in the repair of buildings in the area.
Sligo fundraising
Omagh District Council Chairman Sean Clarke receives a cheque for £1,000 towards the Omagh Fund from Pat Hanley treasurer of St Joseph's GFC in Sligo who raised the money through a collection from all their members. Committee members of the Sligo club travelled to Omagh to make the presentation in the clubrooms of Omagh St Enda's last week.
