Thousands gather to remember
Thousands gathered in Omagh to remember the victims on the first anniversary of the bomb. A central part of the ceremony was a symbolic 'Gathering of Tears', where people representing those who have suffered over the years, including those from Omagh, carried out a ritual act of pouring water. Appropriately, the service ended with the thousands present engaging in a 'sign of peace'. Some shook the hands of those standing beside them; many others, including the bereaved and injured, hugged each other.
Buncrana service
The town of Buncrana fell silent too as thousands of people came together for an emotional service to commemorate the anniversary. People gathered from all over to share, as best they could, the pain and anguish of the families of the bereaved and to express their support for the injured and bereaved families. The lonely beat of a bodhran echoed through Buncrana's silent Main Street marking the beginning of that terrible moment in Omagh which changed the lives of so many families forever.
Garden of Rememberance
The Garden of Remembrance was transformed into a profusion of colour as people of all ages and from all creeds queued from early morning to lay their own floral tribute or simply offer a silent prayer.
Relatives of the deceased and injured from the Omagh district, Buncrana and Madrid laid floral tributes and wreaths at the Special Remembrance Garden in a private ceremony that day.
Messages of love, sympathy, support from all over the world also lay on the ground and poetry hung from the garden archway.
